Idaho Department of Agriculture Diagnostic Laboratory
Project designed under a previous employer
Location: Boise, ID
Project Type: Laboratory
Building Area: 18,000 Sq.Ft.
This facility is a state-of-the-art diagnostic laboratory for the Idaho State Department of Agriculture. The facility boasts specialized BSL-3 (Bio Safety Level) Animal Diagnostic Labs, a Dairy Lab, Plant Pathology Lab, and an Animal Necropsy Lab, complemented by thoughtfully designed office spaces.
In the laboratory spaces, careful attention has been paid to airflow management and environmental control. Constant flow dedicated outside air systems, coupled with DX cooling and hot water heating, ensure optimal conditions for research and testing. Supply and exhaust air valves operate precisely maintaining a fixed offset between supply and exhaust air to achieve proper pressurization in each area, facilitating a seamless flow from clean to dirty spaces.
Energy efficiency is a cornerstone of the design philosophy. A sophisticated run-around loop system enables heat recovery by transferring energy from exhaust air streams to supply air streams. This innovative approach significantly reduces energy consumption while maintaining superior air quality standards.
For the office area, a dedicated rooftop unit delivers reliable climate control and comfort.
Heating is sourced from the sustainable Warm Springs geothermal system, utilizing geothermal water through a cutting-edge heat distribution system. This ensures an environmentally conscious approach to heating, with variable frequency drives on all pumps to optimizing energy usage.
To guarantee the highest standards of purity, a reverse osmosis water system provides RO water to a dedicated loop serving each laboratory space. This ensures the integrity of research and testing processes, free from contaminants.
